Here we are – the penultimate post! Day 30 is the last Cobra post and I went with their composite clone of history’s greatest leaders, Serpentor! I remember being a little kid and thinking his origin was so cool when I read how Dr. Mindbender and Destro came up with him (loved him recounting the origin of pizza, for those of you that remember it!). But it turns out he also kinda marked the beginning of the end for me. Once it got into all the fantastical Cobra-La stuff, I just didn’t like it as much. So symbollically, I saved Serpentor as the last Cobra post for this project.
I tried to stay looser again after yesterday’s post. I was a little more refined with my linework this time around, but I still dove into it with less planning then most of the previous sketches. I experimented with the stipling to hint at the snakeskin texture. Also alluded to the bumpiness of Serpentor’s costume by using serrated shadow edges and blockier containment lines. Lastly, I also did a light purple rim light to help give him a little more dimension, instead of just using a single light source like in most previous posts.
One more to go! Who will the last Joe post be? Stay tuned – it’s coming soon! THIS, I COMMAND!! <- see what I did there?
