Cooke’ing in a Flash

cookeingflashLike the rest of the comics community, I was greatly saddened to hear about Darwyn Cooke’s passing. I’ve been a huge fan of his and always checked out anything with his name on it. Absolutely loved his work on Catwoman, New Frontier, The Spirit, Solo, and The Parker books, just to name a few. One of his posters is framed and has hung proudly in my living room for years. I feel fortunate to have met him and been able to tell him how much I’ve enjoyed his work. I’ve been meaning to do a tribute sketch in his honor, but was waiting for the right inspiration to hit me.

I was reflecting on his work and one of the aspects I always enjoyed about it was the feeling of hope and optimism I felt from it. Something in my head made the connection with how I similarly feel when watching the Flash TV show. Grant Gustin’s take on the Flash has this great sense of hope and optimism and happiness to it. It can get CW-cheesy, but I do enjoy the show. So I decided to do a sketch of Grant’s Flash, but done in a Darwyn Cooke-esque style.

A HUGE thank you for everything, Darwyn!
