Chris Mullin deconstruction

Thought I’d post some fun “behind the scenes” deconstructions of my recent Art of the Game show pieces – starting off with my Chris Mullin. Growing up watching the Warriors, Mully was the face of the franchise. Seeing that trademark flattop running down the court as he pulled up to bury a jumper was a thing of beauty. “When God made the basketball player, he just carved Chris Mullin out and just said ‘This is the player!” – Magic Johnson.

I like to try out different things in my pieces to keep the work visually interesting. This piece was influenced by the work of comic book inker legend, Terry Austin. I was looking at his Classic X-Men covers at the time and wanted to emulate the thick, staccato nature of his line work. It was fun to play with that style!
