BLM: Kneeling

Been reading and listening and processing and trying to be better about understanding racial inequality and inequity. Was reading about the history of Kaepernick and Reid’s kneeling and how it was suggested to them by a former Green Beret. I hope folks who feel like this act was disrespecting the military and the flag come to realize this act was never about that. It’s a distracting rhetoric created to use people’s discomfort to redirect away from the true point of raising awareness to racial inequality and police brutality. If you felt uncomfortable seeing them kneel, it’s ok, that was the point. Channel that discomfort into learning why this action was taken. Black lives matter.

Eric Reid: “We chose to kneel because it’s a respectful gesture. I remember thinking our posture was like a flag flown at half-mast to mark a tragedy.”
