The end of an era. I don’t post about baseball much, but there was a period in the late ’80s to early ’90s that I was a big A’s fan. The Bash Brother days of Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire were so exciting! Walt Weiss and his amazing defensive prowess gave the A’s the 3rd consecutive Rookie of the Year. Dave Stewart, Dennis Eckersley, Terry Steinbach, Dave Henderson, Dave Parker, Mike Gallego, Stan Javier, Luis Polonia, Bob Welch – names that all still evoke memories from my childhood. I loved me some Carney Lansford at the hot corner! With the Giants also being a great team during that time, it was so fun to be a baseball fan in the Bay Area.
I kept a loose follow in the years after. The Moneyball era was a lot of fun. And how freaking cool was Dallas Braden’s legendary perfect game on Mother’s Day! There were a lot of great moments, but for me, that Bash Brothers era was a defining time in my childhood.
Thank you for the memories, Oakland Athletics.
