Concrete Jungle Walk

elephantmenA few months ago, I reread HIP FLASK CONCRETE JUNGLE and forgot how incredibly awesome Ladronn’s art was! That book just blows me away. No wonder he won the Eisner award for Best Painter on that project. It’s one of those books that needed the large oversize treatment to see just how intricate his art was in it (which was the version I was reading)!

This piece was inspired by the art in CONCRETE JUNGLE. Ladronn had such awesome shots of the city, I knew I wanted to do my take on Hip walking down the streets of (future) Los Angeles. This version is my colored version. I posted the lineart separately in my gallery.

After reading that book, I went on a big ELEPHANTMEN binge and caught up to the most recent issues. It’s a really enjoyable series that has a lot of ideas constantly spinning throughout its storylines! I definitely recommend it! If you wanna check out some awesome art by regular Elephantmen artist Moritat, click on this link.

*Addendum 5/11 — I’m thrilled to find out that this drawing of Hip Flask from Elephantmen is printed as a pin-up in Elephantmen #31! Big thanks to Elephantmen creator Richard Starkings for liking it and printing it!

I have a print of this piece available in my Shop page! Take a look to and check out what other items I have on sale also.
